Dark antiatoms can explain DAMA
نویسنده
چکیده
We show that the existence of a sub-dominant form of dark matter, made of dark “antiatoms” of massm ∼ 1 TeV and size ȧ0 ∼ 30 fm, can explain the results of direct detection experiments, with a positive signal in DAMA/NaI and DAMA/LIBRA and no signal in other experiments. The signal comes from the binding of the dark antiatoms to thallium, a dopant in DAMA, and is not present for the constituent atoms of other experiments. The dark antiatoms are made of two particles oppositely charged under a dark U(1) symmetry and can bind to terrestrial atoms because of a kinetic mixing between the photon and the massless dark photon, such that the dark particles acquire an electric millicharge ∼ ±5.10−4e. This millicharge enables them to bind to high-Z atoms via radiative capture, after they thermalize in terrestrial matter through elastic collisions.

Mirror dark matter and the new DAMA / LIBRA results : A simple explanation for a beautiful experiment
Recently, the DAMA/LIBRA experiment has convincingly confirmed the DAMA/NaI annual modulation signal, experimentally demonstrating the existence of non-baryonic dark matter in the halo of our galaxy. Meanwhile, in another part of town, other experiments such as CDMS and XENON10 have not detected any evidence for dark matter. One promising dark matter candidate which can reconcile the positive D...
متن کاملExploring the Mirror Matter Interpretation of the Dama Experiment: Has the Dark Matter Problem Been Solved?
The self consistency between the impressive DAMA annual modulation signal and the measured recoil energy spectrum is identified as an important test for dark matter candidates. Mirror matter-type dark matter passes this test while other dark matter candidates, including standard WIMPs and mini-electric charged particle dark matter , fail. We argue that the unique properties of mirror matter-typ...
متن کاملOn the Origin of Light Dark Matter Species
TeV-mass dark matter charged under a new GeV-scale gauge force can explain electronic cosmicray anomalies. We propose that the CoGeNT and DAMA direct detection experiments are observing scattering of light stable states — “GeV-Matter” — that are charged under this force and constitute a small fraction of the dark matter halo. Dark higgsinos in a supersymmetric dark sector are natural candidates...
متن کاملMass and Scalar Cross-sections for Neutralino Dark Matter in Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking Model
We have considered neutralino to be the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) in the framework of minimal Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetric (mAMSB) model. We have studied variation of neutralino mass with the supersymmetric parameters. Considering these neutralinos to be the candidates for weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) or cold dark matter (CDM), we have calculated the neutralino nuc...

A dark sector — a new non-Abelian gauge group Higgsed or confined near the GeV scale — can be spectacularly probed in low-energy e+e− collisions. A low-mass dark sector can explain the annual modulation signal reported by DAMA/LIBRA and the PAMELA, ATIC, and INTEGRAL observations by generating small mass splittings and new interactions for weak-scale dark matter. Some of these observations may ...
